Eliezer Ben-Yehuda - ֱא ִלי ֶע ֶזר ֵבן ְיהו ָדה
English translation
Eliezer Ben Yehuda and his wife Devorah came to Israel in 1888.
Eliezer and Devorah wanted to live in Israel and speak only Hebrew.
Eliezer Ben Yehuda thought that all the Jews ought to speak only
Hebrew.
Eliezer and Devorah had a son Itamar, born in Jerusalem. Itamar spoke,
read and wrote Hebrew.
Eliezer Ben Yehuda wrote a newspaper in Hebrew and he also wrote a
Hebrew dictionary, but people in Israel thought that Eliezer Ben
Yehuda was crazy, they told him: "we don't want to speak Hebrew".
Eliezer did not listen to them; he continued to write in the newspaper in
Hebrew and continued to invent new words in Hebrew.
Nowadays in Israel everybody speaks Hebrew - Eliezer's dream came
true.
