          Hebrew Vowels - )Nekudot)

Before studying the Hebrew letters, let’s get acquainted with the Hebrew
vowel system. Hebrew vowels, called “nekudot” – 'dots', are NOT an
integral part of the alphabet.
These are written as small dots or symbols underneath, above, inside or
beside the letters.
In Modern Hebrew as spoken in Israel, two different vowels may have the
same pronunciation.
For instance, in the following example the actual letters (consonants) are
represented by the dotted circles, while the vowels (NEKUDOT) are drawn
beneath those.

      The sound of the two vowels in this example is the same. It is

    equivalent to the sound A in English, as in the word FATHER.
