Independence – The Intrinsic Strength
The Intrinsic Strength
Shalom,
We are now on the verge of the celebrations of Israel’s 70th Independence Day starting tonight.
Still mourning over all those who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of those who continue to live, continue to remember the fallen, and continue to love and built a brighter future.
Those who are no longer with us, strengthened the foundation of our future.
Our collective memory of those has a purpose!
We remember “The Past” in “The Present”, for the purpose of building and securing “Our Future”.
Independence day in Hebrew is – יום העצמאות
YOM HA’ATZMAUT
ATZMAUT – ‘Independence’ comes from the root עצם
ETZEM, meaning ‘bone‘.
A bone is something internal and strong, which enables to build upon it and maintain a firm structure.
Another Hebrew word derived from the same root ‘ETZEM’ is עצמה OTZMA – ‘Power’.
Thus, עצמאות – Independence in Hebrew, represents something intrinsically powerful – something our people can rely for our collective future as a nation.
It is unfortunate that since the holocaust, when the Jewish population was more than 16 million people (it was 16,728.000 in 1939) having 6,000.000 of our people brutally murdered, after almost 80 years we have not yet even gained the same population size now.
It is estimated that the world Jewish population today is just slightly over 15,000.000 people.
Over the same time period the population of some of Israel’s neighboring countries quadrupled their population.
Israel, “The Startup Nation” is one of the fastest growing countries in the world in so many aspects!
What then is the reason for such a slow growth of the size of our population?
Here is a short video clip of what I had to say briefly on this subject:

Happy Independence Day!
